What is home decor? How to choose one? Importance of decor?

“HOME DECOR IS THE SOUL OF THE HOME WE LIVE IN”

In this article you can see

  1. Introduction.
  2. Back and Now: How did decor evolve over time?
  3. Difference in design and decor.
  4. Ideal way of decor.
  5. The first and foremost feature of home decor.

Your mood and general well-being can benefit from a well organized home. Your mental state can be affected and a more pleasant ambiance can be created by the colors, lighting, and décor you choose. Establishing a Feeling of Acceptance: Decor may foster a feeling of connection and ownership for your house.

BACK AND NOW

Home decor is no new topic in this era. Home decor has evolved since our Stone Age days. For example say, that’s why you can see people drawing painting on the wall of the caves which they called their home, Kept fire lighting everywhere, Made some aromatic accessories. They also made sculptures and artwork. Although their core reasons must be that they were creating history, or say they used fire for light, aromatic plants and spices to keep any rodents away. sculptures and art work to highlight their belief and culture etc.

Today in this modern era, we are replicating the same things in many different style. like displaying frames, placing some interesting sculptures, aromatic diffuser or say scented candles. Introducing medicinal plants in our living area. etc and many more. Home decor is an ambiance created from within and interior design is a structure that carries decor space.

IN SIMPLE WORDS, HOW DOES DECOR AND DESIGNING DIFFER ?

like say designing a window with wooden framework and beautiful glass work is interior designing. And highlighting your window with bright curtains or setting up an Arm chair right next to that window with a cute cushion and some interesting books over a small corner table is called a home decor. adding aesthetic beauty that can be functional is another way to call it decor.

NOT EVERYONE TODAY UNDERSTANDS THE REAL PURPOSE OF HOME DECOR AND WHAT DIFFERENCE THAT CAN BRING INTO OUR LIVES PHYSICALLY AS WELL AS EMOTIONALLY.

“Home decor is not Interior Design.”

People are crazily spending hefty amounts on interior design today, not knowing the difference between decor and design. Interior design does have its own importance; I don’t deny that fact. But the furnishing seen in the office is not something you want in your home, right? That’s where home decor comes in. Being an architect and interior stylist, I can say that what people are exactly looking for—home decor, interior design, landscape design, etc.—is evident from the way they approach me for a change that they are looking to create in their space.

Interior styling is based on seven main principles: balance, harmony, rhythm, proportion and scale, emphasis, contrast, and details. These ideas can be applied to any room in your house.

IDEAL WAY OF DECOR

Let every corner of your house speak back to you. Let it bring an ample amount of positivity around you. Positive vibration can be brought up in two ways, scientifically or by belief followed for ages by our ancestors. It can be anything that brings memories to you or defines your home. Colours,  shapes,  lighting,  presentation, upholstery, fragrance, etc., and many more. These things enhance a space and bring in productivity in every aspect of your life. Let us take a look at how home decor can be so satisfying, peaceful, & justifying.

Having a home that reflects your personality is one of the easiest ways to present your home and lifestyle.  I believe in effortless styling be it dressing, decor, design, arrangement, etc. whatever it has to evolve out of you and not be forced push out of you.

THE FIRST AND THE FOREMOST FEATURE OF HOME DECOR

You can start introducing plants. Plants are also classified as living sculpture in another term. Bring plenty of plants into your space. Whether it is permanent or temporary, workplace or home. They do have soul, which is why they bloom and leave you feeling happy and calm. Trust me, they simply transform a dull space into a soulful space. Even if you are not a plant lover, just give it a try and see.

Check out my article on how I have worked out home decor in multiple ways in my home over here.

How living room can bring a sense of enchantment chapter 2

Home decor need not be lavish, or put up with pricey decor items available in the market. It can also be things made with your own hands or scraps left out in your home.

Today the decor experts have decoded the categories according to the personalities of people. Decor once carried no such importance anywhere, but now decor is overtaking the world like a storm. Earlier people only knew an interior design company and just blindly gave their space to stack up furniture or do something that they did end up liking.

But now decor is more minimalistic and pleasing and soothing. Everyone gets their own taste of their home. So if you are confused about what you want to do with your bedroom or patio or workplace, just give a call right away to an interior stylist or home decor expert. They know what you will like. It’s totally a psychological algorithm that only a stylist or decor expert can help you achieve.

DECOR AND ITS TYPES :
My top 3 favourite decor themes of all time.

    1. One of the classy, bubblyand mood striking theme is the DOPAMINE DECOR

Dopamine decor refers to bright colors, striking designs, varied prints, soft textures, and an irresistible, nostalgic atmosphere. In a word, dopamine decor has more of mustard yellow, bright green, blue sky, pink, peach and white (as a background) colors in it. It’s the decor theme promoting HAPPINESS.

This style reminds me of my carefree childhood, when your bedroom walls were covered in your favorite celebrity posters, humorous signs, unusual lighting, and stuff that made you feel really happy. Dopamine decor is all about going big, abandoning the idea of minimalism. It all comes down to overlaying your environment with an abundance of patterns, colors, textures, and other happy elements.

    2. One of the elegant, humble, functional and sparkling gold, neat and sharp is SCANDINAVIAN DECOR.

Inspired by Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, this Nordic-style decor will never receive a low rating for styling. I always love the combination of Scandinavian and Korean decor. Scandinavian themes emphasize white, black, and gold elements, as well as bright lighting, whereas Korean themes emphasize warmth, woodiness, neutrality, and rusticity. It kind of makes you feel uplifted and sober.

Scandinavian design prioritizes minimalism, straight, uncomplicated lines, and functionality over aesthetics. It became popular in the 1950s, coinciding with the rise of modern fashion in Europe and America. Its absence of clutter contributes to its visual appeal.

    3. The other one being the TRADITIONAL DECOR that is more commonly observed.

Traditional decor varies from place to place, reflecting more of the culture and their thought process. It starts from when or how the home has evolved, followed by a generational touch. They are soothing and also expensive at times.

    1. In India, it gives us a temple feel with a classical touch.
    2. In western countries it dates back to the century-old style, like how it is seen in palaces.
    3. In Asian countries, they speak more of age-old wood and stone and plantations with all warm and rustic natural elements extracted from the earth.
    4. In Africa it resembles more of a tribal touch. The desert and dry feel. The use of cactus and palm leaf roofs. Sometimes climate also takes a huge role in setting up a decor for your space.
    5. The Mediterranean and island houses have tropical decor vibes, and they are simply refreshing 24/7. They are amazing and supported by nature if you choose the right way to do the decor.

Unlike the aforementioned important categories of decor, there are more decor themes that one may find suitable for their space, as follows:

1. Modern Interior Design Style &  Contemporary Interior Style

Both are different in terms of design. Modern means more of simple. Neat & clean finish, use of glass and steel or metal finish. It also consists of bright colors and geometric patterns. Bold and expressive display pieces.
Whereas contemporary dates back to the past, when different eras saw advancements. Contemporary has subtle colors—white, black, and woody majorly—and a dash of golden or black here and there. Contemporary makes a space appear bigger and clutter-free.

2. Art Moderne Interior Style

It makes you look like those New York apartments. Instantly conveys an American street vibe. The lighting, the color, the single-piece large posters, and the curvy shapes here and there. It mostly reminds you of a bustling American city’s nightlife. The color also goes that way with black and shades of gray. When I think of Art Moderne interior styling, the first thing that comes to mind is the film “Fifty Shades of Grey.” It’s a combination of contemporary and Art Moderne.

3. Minimalist Interior Design Style

Australia pioneered the minimalist home design movement, which is still very popular there. The aesthetic places a strong emphasis on minimalism in all facets of interior design, from straightforward furniture to muted color schemes to useful but understated accessories. Everything is clear-cut, easy to understand, and functional. Not overdoing it.

4. Scandinavian Interior Design Style

It also represents simple, yet quite useful environments. In addition, it is cozy and provides room for individual invitations. Its emphasis on cost rather than merely necessity sets it apart from minimalist designs.  The majority of décor pieces are simple ornaments, curvy furniture, natural and minimalistic detailing, and color schemes that mostly consist of black and white and gold. It is also distinguished by clusters organizing and dedicated places to a purpose.

5. Shabby Chic Interior Design Style

More of a worn and torn old cottage look. Rustic and yet admirable features. more importantly the rustic wooden rafter beams, the stairs, the window, the carpet, and the sofa. Has light to no hues. more of pastel blue and white. You can readily find shabby chic decor at thrift stores, flea markets, and antique shops because it has a time-worn, vintage beauty.

6. Eclectic Interior Design Style

This look creates a distinctive vibe by combining contrasting colors, textures, and style components. Rooms with eclectic design strive to balance textures and colors so as not to overpower the eye and have several focal points. It mostly carries different surface texture like say, the curtains, the carpets, and the runner on the table. the throw on the sofa, the chair fabrics and a wall with some feature below half the wall.

7. Industrial Interior Design Style

In industrial design, utility and style come together. An industrial-style house, as the name implies, displays elements of construction that are typically hidden, such as pipes, repurposed materials, and bare brick walls. The designer strives to blend contemporary components with an organic vibe and vintage charm in order to produce a fashionable area that clearly emphasizes practicality and purpose.

The furniture in these homes is typically positioned to break up the space, and the floor layouts are typically open. Using neutral colors and materials with a touch of industrial characteristics makes it one of the simplest interior design concepts to execute.

8 . Farmhouse Interior Design Style

Not much explanation is required, as the name suggests. Using these components, the farmhouse interior design style gives a concrete-surrounded metropolitan home the feeling of a farmhouse. a balance of country-style cottage and a contemporary villa. The fact that a single element drives each space is one of the most striking features of farmhouse interior design. Thus, for example, you may have one element governing the living room and another governing the bedroom.

9 . Art deco Interior Design Style

The animal print rugs and upholsteries, more of black and yellow bold combinations, art posters or frames that are distorted yet have a sort of disintegrated effect, and the introduction of metallic furniture or display items are what you can majorly see in this kind of Art Deco interior style. There is the use of wallpapers that aren’t subtle, and the walls are completely covered, making it appear darker. The rooms have high walls; only then can this effect be achieved. The funky celebrity personality enjoys these kinds of interiors. The retro feel and disco night color effects are some of the added features that can be seen.

There is another popular subcategory under this Art deco style, which is Art Nouveau :
1. Though it can be observed in architecture, ornamental arts are where Art Nouveau is most common. It began in the 1880s and frequently included shapes and patterns derived from vines, flower stalks, and other natural components.
2. In contrast, Art Deco employed shapes that were more streamlined, geometric, and straight.

10. Boho—Bohemian Interior Design Style

Geometric wallpaper, a tribal rug, and artwork with natural themes. This kind of finished look is distinctly boho. The focus of bohemian design is on natural components. The primary ones are plants. They provide vitality. Luxurious textiles are preferred, such as Malian slush-clothed gambling pillows and hand-woven Moroccan accessories that are heavily patterned with Japanese block prints. Its comfortable It’s highly free-spirited. Its tropical.  It’s bohemian.

11. Coastal Interior Design Style

Again, the word says it all. Coastal is breezy, with shells, sand, tall long single-branch plants, sky blue, marine blue shades, coral shades and rustic furniture that looks worn off but actually costs you a lot to achieve the effect. These are something that go into the theme. It gives a feel of a holiday cottage resort. The main accents are mostly blue, natural, and whitewashed hues that let sunlight filter through the beautiful areas.

12. French Country Interior Design Style

The most feminine style of decor is loved across the globe.  It dates back to the provincial era, in which the elements often seen are the ornamental rice symmetrical curves. French style is classified as the high-society lavish style. Rich hues, striking patterns, and gold accents are some of its fundamentals. The colors that are employed to highlight and integrate the French-style interior styling are creams, warm pinks, baby blues, and gentle yellows. Its characteristic elements include painted and charming furnishings and accessories, as well as fabrics with vocal patterns in subdued hues. It makes extensive use of wood and other natural accents.

  • Balanced, symmetrical proportions.
  • Brick exterior.
  • Gothic elements.
  • Renaissance & Baroque-inspired aesthetics.
  • Tall second-story windows (often with arched tops)

13. Hollywood Glam Interior Design Style

It resembles more industrial and contemporary decor. This style of decor also features some geometric and bold colors, such as black. Additionally, we can use leather, suede, lacquer, and metallic highlights. Bold décor pieces, such as Mandarin vases, crystal plinths, or ceramic horse artworks, look great in Hollywood Glam surroundings. A tiered, jewel-box-like collection of priceless treasures that is sure to please can be the outcome. Touchable glamour is the hallmark of Hollywood glam; go for luxurious materials in a wide range of hues, such as satin, silk, velvet, leather, and fur (or faux fur). The use of shiny, glossy surfaces and stylized mirrors adds a kind of glam touch to the space.

14. Japandi Interior Design Style

Japandi decor is more of a Japanese and Scandinavian style blended together. It teaches us to learn the imperfections and yet admire the beauty by keeping it. Earthy, woody, browny shades with off-white and rustic off-white make it appear like the Japandi theme. The dried long branches with cherry blossoms and large frames and giant vases are most commonly seen in this type of decor. The use of wooden floors and bamboo artifacts is very commonly seen. Beige, gray, brown and green are the most commonly used color shades. The use of jute in many places and the linen and khadi textures are one among these decor styles. Due to the unique style of home decor, it can be expensive.

15. Mediterranean Interior Design Style

It always reminds me of Santorini, the most popular landmark in Greece. It is blue and white with bougainvillea around it. The curves on the floor and walls. The undulated wall surface. Just limited basic and only highly functional furniture is introduced. The sun needs to slide in as such, the openings are long and wide. Use of dark wood is highlighted boldly at corners or ceilings or through furnitures.  The ceramics introduced are in the Turkish style, white with blue ornamental designs. Long-leaf plants are used to highlight the huge corners; tall, plain colour vases mostly in blue or white combinations, are kept here and there to achieve that Mediterranean feel. The bamboo cane wall lamps or bamboo entryway table or corner table is one popular highlight point.
